Khorasan Governor General Visits China

TEHRAN The Governor General of the Province of Khorasan Mohsen Mehr-Alizadeh, heading an economic, political, and cultural delegation, arrived in China to discuss agreements reached during President Mohammad Khatami's recent visit to China.

The governor general left Tehran Monday and was to arrive in the autonomous Province of Xinjiang (Uygurestan, East Turkestan) on Tuesday.

The visit aims to pave the way for the export of Iranian technical and engineering services, investment in industries, establishment of flights to promote tourism and the setting up of Iran's political representative office in the province.

The holding of commercial exhibitions, the export of goods needed in the area, and the signing of sister cities agreement between the provincial capital of Mashhad and Urumqi, the provincial capital of Xinjiang Province are also among the topics to be discussed during the visit.

President Khatami has underlined the need to promote economic ties with other countries, especially with Muslim states, and with the Muslim-populated Province of Xinjiang.

Concerning social and religious commonalties between Iran and the Chinese province and also the neighborhood of Xinjiang with Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, the two countries' officials will also discuss enhancement of cultural relations.
